Qatar Buys 22 Percent Stake in CITIC Capital

On August 22, 2012, Reuters reported that Qatar Holding, a unit of Qatar’s sovereign wealth fund, had purchased a 22% stake in CITIC Capital Holdings, a Chinese investment fund, for an undisclosed sum.

On August 22, 2012, Reuters reported that Qatar Holding, a unit of Qatar’s sovereign wealth fund, had purchased a 22% stake in CITIC Capital Holdings, a Chinese investment fund.  The terms of the transaction were not disclosed.  CITIC Capital has approximately $4.6 billion in assets under management, and is partly owned by CIC, China’s sovereign wealth fund.  CITIC Capital is known primarily as a private equity and real estate investor, with operations in China, Japan and the United States.  Qatar is reported to be interested in increasing its investments in China; towards that end, Qatar is currently applying for a $5 billion quota under China’s Qualified Foreign Investor scheme.
