On January 20, 2016, Seward & Kissel client iM Square announced the acquisition of a 20% equity interest in Polen Capital Management LLC, an independent growth-equity manager.
In conjunction with iM Square’s minority investment, the employees of Polen Capital Management LLC (“Polen Capital”) increased their ownership in Polen Capital from 51% to 60%. This is the first transaction for iM Square since its June 2015 launch by Philippe Couvrecelle and founding shareholders Amundi (the leading European asset manager), Eurazeo (one of the leading listed investment companies in Europe) and La Maison (an investment group that includes Dassault Group as its leading shareholder).
Based in London, iM Square targets independent investment companies that are profitable. These target companies usually manage between $1 billion and $15 billion as well as invest in traditional and liquid assets.
Polen Capital, located in Boca Raton, Florida, is a long-term investor in growth companies around the globe with more than $7.5 billion of assets under advisement.
A Seward & Kissel team led by partner Craig Sklar and associate Gerhard Anderson, along with tax partner Jim Cofer, employee benefits counsel Michael O’Brien, and associates Dora Pulido and Kaitlyn Pasco represented iM Square in connection with the transaction.
