GMO to Acquire Usonian Investments

On July 15, 2020, it was announced that Grantham, Mayo, Van Otterloo & Co. LLC (GMO) will acquire Usonian Investments LLC.

Under the agreement Grantham, Mayo, Van Otterloo & Co. LLC (“GMO”) will acquire Usonian Investments LLC (“Usonian”). GMO will maintain Usonian’s presence in Tokyo, and Usonian’s Chicago based team will merge with GMO’s office in Berkeley, California. GMO will offer Usonian’s strategy as a standalone offering to their clients. Further terms of the deal were not disclosed.

GMO, based in Boston, is a global investment management firm with a focus on pooled investment vehicles and private investment funds. As of December 31, 2019, GMO had $64 billion in assets under management.

Usonian, based in Tokyo, is an independent investment advisory firm that uses a bottom-up value approach to security selection and corporate management. Usonian has approximately $1 billion in assets under management.
